Alentejo wine is produced in the Alentejo region, which is located in the south of Portugal. This region is known for its hot and dry climate, with very hot summers and mild winters, which is ideal for growing high quality grapes. The main grape varieties used in the production of Alentejo wine include Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet and Trincadeira, among others. Alentejo wine can be red, white or rosé, with the reds being the most popular. They are known for their deep, dark color, fruity aroma and intense flavor, which often includes hints of red fruits such as cherries and blackberries, as well as a hint of spice. Alentejo wine is generally fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in oak barrels for a minimum period of six months.
